A devastating collision between two migrant boats near the Tunisian city of Sfax has claimed the lives of 27 people, including women and children, with many others still missing.

The overcrowded boats, carrying migrants from various African nations, were attempting to cross the Mediterranean to reach Europe when the accident occurred. The collision led to both vessels capsizing, resulting in significant loss of life.

Tunisian Coast Guard teams managed to rescue 83 individuals during an ongoing operation. Efforts to locate and save missing migrants are being spearheaded by the National Guard, though hopes are fading as time passes.

This incident underscores the dangers faced by those attempting perilous sea crossings in search of better opportunities. Unsafe vessels and treacherous waters continue to contribute to high casualty rates in the Mediterranean migration crisis.
