The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) is gearing up for the 2nd Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Inter-Club Hockey Championship, scheduled to commence on December 20. The initiative aims to revive and promote Pakistan’s national sport while identifying emerging talent across the country.

PHF Secretary Rana Mujahid shared the details of the event at a press conference at the National Hockey Stadium in Lahore on Monday. According to Mujahid, over 800 clubs from across Pakistan will participate in the competition. Registration for the championship will open from December 11 to 15, followed by scrutiny by provincial hockey associations, which will conclude by December 18.

The tournament will unfold in four stages. The first stage will be district-level competitions, held from December 20 to January 5. The second stage, focusing on divisional and regional matches, will run from January 8 to 13. Provincial-level competitions are slated for January 15 to 22, and the final stage will feature the top 10 clubs competing at the national level, with all matches to be held at the National Hockey Stadium in Lahore.

Rana Mujahid revealed that four teams from Punjab, two from Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and one from each of Baluchistan, Islamabad, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan will qualify for the national stage.

Mujahid expressed his gratitude to Chief of the Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir for his unwavering support of hockey in Pakistan. He emphasized that the championship is an important step in unearthing fresh talent to strengthen Pakistan’s future in the sport.
