Tel Aviv — Around 350,000 people gathered in Tel Aviv’s Hostages Square on Tuesday night to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and a deal to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas, according to event organizers.
The rally, one of the largest in recent weeks, concluded with thousands of participants singing Israel’s national anthem. Actor Lior Ashkenazi, speaking from the main stage, declared the demonstration a turning point in Israel’s civil movement for peace.
“This is the most moral and humanitarian struggle there is,” Ashkenazi told the crowd. “We are done being polite — enough is enough.”
The demonstration followed a similar mass protest on August 17, which organizers claimed drew 500,000 people, though Israeli police have yet to release their own independent estimates of either gathering.
Protesters carried signs demanding the government prioritize a deal with Hamas that would end the ongoing conflict and bring captives home. Chanting, music, and speeches echoed throughout Tel Aviv’s city center well into the night.
The protests reflect mounting domestic pressure on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to resolve the hostage crisis and explore avenues for a ceasefire. Critics argue that the conflict’s continuation without progress on negotiations risks further humanitarian catastrophe and political instability at home.
With tensions still high, organizers have vowed to keep mobilizing, urging citizens across Israel to join what they describe as a “moral and humanitarian movement” until a breakthrough is achieved.
