4th International Hydropower Conference to be Held on January 9 in Islamabad

The 4th International Hydropower Conference 2025 will be held on January 9 in Islamabad, organized by Energy Update in collaboration with the Private Power Infrastructure Board (PPIB) and the International Hydropower Association. The event promises to bring together leading experts, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to discuss hydropower’s pivotal role in shaping a sustainable energy future for Pakistan.

The conference will begin with an inaugural session featuring distinguished speakers including M. Naeem Qureshi, Managing Editor of Energy Update, Shah Jahan Mirza, Managing Director of PPIB, and Eddie Rich, CEO of the International Hydropower Association, who will join remotely. Dr. Musadik Malik, Federal Minister for Water Resources, will also be the Chief Guest and address the gathering.

The conference will feature multiple interactive sessions, with presentations from key figures like Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Azam Joya (GM C&M Water), Asim Javed (Hydropower Expert), Dr. Irfan Yousaf (CEO, MKAI Climate Consulting), Dr. Hassan Daud Butt (Senior Advisor, CEEC), and Dr. Jehanzeb Nasir (Energy Systems Engineer, NUST). These sessions will cover a range of critical issues, including financing challenges, emerging technologies, and hydropower’s role in Pakistan’s energy sector.

A series of panel discussions will further delve into the significance of hydropower in Pakistan, featuring experts such as Dr. Munawar Iqbal Kamboh (DG Hydel, PPIB), Arfan Miana (CEO, Neelum Jhelum Hydropower), and Dr. Parvaiz Naim (External Advisor, KFW Development Bank). These discussions will explore the potential and challenges faced by the hydropower industry.

The conference will conclude with a session on parliamentary leadership in energy transition, chaired by Prof. Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives. The session will include discussions from Dr. Nafisa Shah (MNA), Dr. Shazrey Munsab Ali Khan (MNA & Parliamentary Secretary, MoFA), Dr. Amjad Ali Khan (MNA & Member, Energy Nexus Economy Forum), and Senator Saadia Abbasi.
