
Pakistani Army Chief Highlights Technology’s Role and Regional Security Challenges at Margalla Dialogue 2024

Army Chief Gen. Asim Munir address at the Margalla Dialogue 2024, highlighted the pivotal role of technology in shaping modern information flows while cautioning against the challenges posed by the rapid spread of misinformation. He noted that recent years have witnessed sweeping changes in global economies, defense capabilities, and technological landscapes.
Gen. Asim Munir pointed to the rise of non-state violent actors and state-sponsored terrorism as significant security threats, reaffirming Pakistan’s steadfast resolve in combating terrorism. He detailed efforts such as enhanced border management and the ‘Vision Istehkam,’ an integral component of the National Action Plan aimed at countering extremism and safeguarding national security.
The Army Chief called attention to extremist ideologies that fuel terrorism worldwide and stressed the importance of Afghanistan’s commitment to ensuring its territory is not used for cross-border terrorism. He underscored that terrorism remains a global challenge impacting all humanity.
He also spoke on shared international priorities, including climate action, counter-terrorism, and public health efforts, affirming Pakistan’s active role in promoting peace. Gen. Munir emphasized that peace in Kashmir, as outlined by UN resolutions and reflecting the aspirations of its people, is essential. He reiterated Pakistan’s history of providing humanitarian aid to Gaza and Lebanon and called for lasting peace in the region.
Gen. Munir noted Pakistan’s contributions to international peacekeeping missions, highlighting that over 235,000 Pakistanis have served under the UN flag, with 181 making the ultimate sacrifice. Additionally, he outlined Pakistan’s strategic strengths: a youthful population, vast natural resources, significant agricultural capacity, and a prominent position in global freelancing.
Concluding his address, Gen. Munir stressed Pakistan’s unique geographical significance as a key trade corridor connecting Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East. He assured that Pakistan will remain dedicated to global peace and stability while steering clear of becoming entangled in international disputes.
