The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), led by Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, has given the nod to the Prime Minister’s Winter Relief Package for electricity consumers.
The package, already approved by the IMF, introduces a flat rate of Rs. 26.07 per unit for additional power consumption. This scheme is set to run from December 2024 through February 2025 and is designed to provide relief to industrial, residential, and commercial users exceeding 200 units of usage.
During the session, it was highlighted that high electricity tariffs had previously led to a noticeable decline in consumption across various sectors. The new winter plan aims to boost usage while providing financial relief. The package extends to both DISCOs’ general consumers and K-Electric customers.
Authorities will also compare current consumption with data from the same period in 2024 to measure the program’s effectiveness.
