President Joe Biden’s recent decision to approve the use of U.S.-supplied long-range missiles by Ukraine has sparked a fierce backlash from President-elect Donald Trump’s allies, who accuse the outgoing leader of ratcheting up tensions dangerously in the closing days of his administration.
Russia has vowed an “appropriate” response if these U.S.-supplied missiles are deployed. Trump’s allies wasted no time condemning Biden’s decision, framing it as a politically motivated act that could complicate the upcoming administration’s foreign policy.
“It’s another step up the escalation ladder, and nobody knows where this is going,” said Mike Waltz, Trump’s pick for national security adviser, in an interview. Richard Grenell, a former Trump official and potential Secretary of State candidate, warned on social media that Biden’s decision “changes everything” and suggested it was a last-minute gambit driven by political motives.
