G7 Calls for Lebanon Ceasefire, Urges Israel to Facilitate Aid

The foreign ministers of G7 nations have called for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, emphasizing the urgency of reaching a diplomatic settlement to ease escalating tensions in the region.

Concluding their two-day meeting in Italy, the ministers issued a draft statement urging Israel to enable unhindered humanitarian aid delivery to Palestinians and decrying the rising settler violence in the West Bank, according to Reuters.

The G7 ministers strongly condemned a recent attack on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), reiterating their commitment to the safety and effectiveness of the peacekeeping mission. Additionally, they voiced robust support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), highlighting its “vital role” in addressing the needs of Palestinian refugees.

“Now is the time to conclude a diplomatic settlement,” the statement emphasized, reflecting mounting international pressure on Israel to engage in dialogue to prevent further escalation.

The G7 nations—Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States—reaffirmed their commitment to stability in the Middle East, underscoring the necessity of protecting civilian lives and maintaining regional peace.
