The Board of Directors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has appointed Japan’s Masato Kanda as the institution’s new president.
The announcement was made following a unanimous decision by the ADB Board of Governors, confirming Kanda as the 11th president of the bank. Currently, Kanda serves as an advisor to Japan’s Prime Minister and is also the country’s Finance Minister.
Kanda will officially take over the role of ADB president on February 24, 2025, and his tenure is expected to last until November 2026.
With a robust background in international finance and multilateral management, Kanda’s appointment is seen as a move to strengthen ADB’s leadership as it continues to play a key role in regional economic development.
