Opposition Forces in Syria Announce General Amnesty for Conscripted Soldiers

Syria’s Opposition forces have declared a sweeping amnesty for conscripted soldiers. This amnesty, extended to all individuals who served under the now-deposed government’s mandatory military service, promises protection and freedom from harm.

The message, shared on opposition channels such as Telegram, emphasized that any violence or mistreatment of these soldiers would be prohibited, highlighting the move as an effort to protect and reintegrate those caught in the crossfire of the prolonged civil war.

This announcement comes after the collapse of Assad’s leadership, which had ruled Syria for over five decades. The opposition, with minimal resistance, has rapidly seized control of several key cities, further eroding the remnants of the regime’s power.

This amnesty represents a significant shift in the ongoing conflict, offering a pathway for soldiers, many of whom were coerced into service, to return to their families without fear of retribution. It marks a new chapter for Syria as the opposition strengthens its influence and begins shaping a future beyond the Assad regime.
