Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal has called for expedited progress on the Seerat Center Lahore project, a landmark initiative aimed at fostering research and education on themes inspired by the life of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
Chairing a meeting on Tuesday, the minister reviewed the Rs1,387.647 million project, approved in July 2022, and expressed concern over delays in its implementation. The initiative includes establishing nine Seerat Chairs in public sector universities, a Center for Gender Studies and Women’s Rights, and an endowment fund to support research activities.
“This project has immense potential to advance research in areas such as faith harmony, human rights, education, sustainable development, and global peace,” Ahsan Iqbal stated. He emphasized the urgent need to activate the administrative structure, library, and research facilities.
The minister highlighted the importance of a robust curriculum for female students, encompassing Islamic teachings, philosophy, economics, and management. “This will not only provide them with ideological grounding but also equip them to excel in the modern world,” he added.
Ahsan Iqbal expressed optimism that the Seerat Center Lahore would serve as a milestone in promoting gender equality and advancing women’s rights in Pakistan. The project, he asserted, would help integrate Islamic principles with contemporary global challenges, fostering a balanced and enlightened academic environment.
