
President Zardari Encourages Greater Chinese Investment in Pakistan

President Asif Ali Zardari has called for increased Chinese investment in Pakistan to further economic and commercial collaboration between the two countries. He emphasized the importance of fostering stronger ties between investors and businesses to enhance bilateral trade and economic relations.
During a meeting at Bilawal House, Karachi, with a Chinese business delegation led by the Chinese Consul General in Karachi, Yang Yundong, President Zardari expressed Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating Chinese investors in diverse sectors, including agriculture, livestock, energy, transport, and manufacturing.
The delegation expressed interest in investing $1 billion to establish a medical city in Pakistan, aiming to transform the healthcare sector. The initiative was warmly welcomed by the President, who assured full support for such transformative projects.
President Zardari reiterated the deep-rooted, historic friendship between Pakistan and China, highlighting shared values and interests. He emphasized his vision for developing Gawadar Port into a regional trade and economic hub, enhancing connectivity and boosting regional economic cooperation.
“We have been close friends for decades, and Pakistan greatly values its relationship with China. We look forward to deeper collaboration in economic and trade domains,” he remarked.
The President also pointed out efforts to strengthen people-to-people connections, including the introduction of Chinese language courses in Sindh, as a step towards fostering cultural linkages.
Prominent attendees of the meeting included Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Minister for Transport and Information Sharjeel Inam Memon, Minister for Energy, Planning, and Development Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, and Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Investment and Public-Private Partnerships Syed Qasim N Qamar.
