Israeli security forces have arrested a 23-year-old Jerusalem resident on suspicion of collaborating with Iranian intelligence agents in a plot to attack targets in Israel in exchange for payment. The man was apprehended in November following an investigation by the Shin Bet security service and Israeli police, which revealed he had been in contact with an Iranian agent named “John” since October.
According to the security services, the suspect had attempted to locate and disable the power supply to the Jerusalem light rail system, sending a video of the power network to his Iranian handler. Furthermore, he had searched online for firearms, silencers, and materials to manufacture explosives, which he intended to use in the attack.
The suspect is currently in detention, and an indictment is expected soon. This arrest is part of a broader wave of espionage activities, with nearly 30 Israeli citizens, including several Jewish individuals, arrested in connection with spying for Iran. Reports suggest that these covert operations represent Iran’s most significant infiltration effort into Israel in decades.
