PM Shahbaz Sharif and Indonesian President Meet to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif held a significant meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Cairo on the sidelines of the D-8 Summit. The two leaders discussed a range of topics, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations and fostering deeper cooperation between their nations.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif extended his congratulations to President Subianto on taking office and acknowledged Indonesia’s vital role as a reliable trade partner, particularly as a major supplier of palm oil to Pakistan.

The conversation also centered on strengthening political, trade, and economic ties, with both leaders agreeing on the importance of maintaining close contact to further solidify their countries’ partnership. They also emphasized the need for increased collaboration in multilateral forums to address regional challenges.

The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s support in Pakistan’s bid to achieve Sectoral Dialogue Partner status within ASEAN, as well as its backing for Pakistan’s membership in the ASEAN Regional Forum. Shahbaz Sharif voiced optimism that, with continued Indonesian cooperation, Pakistan could soon attain full Dialogue Partner status in ASEAN.

Prime Minister Shahbaz also invited President Subianto to visit Pakistan, and the Indonesian leader accepted the invitation with enthusiasm, signaling further strengthening of the bilateral relationship.

The leaders reiterated their strong support for Palestine, urging for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and advocating for a comprehensive, long-term resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Both affirmed their commitment to the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state.
