
PM Shahbaz, Bangladesh’s Dr. Yunus Discuss Economic Cooperation at D-8 Summit

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif met with Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, on the sidelines of the 11th D-8 Summit, emphasizing enhanced bilateral economic collaboration and exploring new opportunities for trade and investment.
The meeting unfolded in a warm and cordial atmosphere, reflecting the goodwill and fraternal ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh. Discussions highlighted areas with high potential for collaboration, including chemicals, cement clinkers, surgical and leather goods, and information technology.
Prime Minister Shahbaz expressed gratitude for Bangladesh’s recent trade and travel facilitation measures, such as lifting the mandatory 100% physical inspection of Pakistani consignments and abolishing the special security desk at Dhaka Airport for Pakistani travelers. He also appreciated the removal of additional clearance requirements for Pakistani visa applicants.
The leaders noted recent positive developments in bilateral relations and reiterated the importance of fostering people-to-people connections. They emphasized cultural and academic exchanges, including interactions among artists, sportspersons, and students, as a bridge for stronger ties.
The two leaders commended events like the Bangladesh Cricket Team’s visit to Pakistan and a Pakistani artist’s concert in Dhaka as examples of growing cultural cooperation.
Both sides agreed to intensify collaboration at multilateral platforms like the D-8 and work toward mutually beneficial development goals while reinforcing their historical, religious, and cultural linkages.
