Iran Demands UN Action After Israel Claims Responsibility for Killing Ismail Haniyeh

Iran has called on the United Nations to take immediate action against Israel after the Israeli defense minister, Yoav Gallant, publicly acknowledged the killing of senior Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. In a letter addressed to the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council, Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravani, described the assassination as a blatant act of terrorism and called for Israel to be held accountable for its actions.

Iravani condemned Israel’s admission of responsibility for the murder, noting that it was a clear indication of the country’s “reckless and aggressive policies.” He emphasized that Israel’s actions not only violated international law but also posed a significant threat to regional and global security.

In his letter, Iravani stressed that Israel’s acknowledgment of the crime further validated Iran’s retaliatory actions against Israeli targets in October 2024. He argued that Iran’s response was entirely legal and necessary in the face of Israel’s ongoing provocations. According to Iravani, this attack on a political figure in a foreign country demonstrates Israel’s growing defiance of international norms.

Iravani also appealed to the United Nations to take decisive action to prevent further Israeli aggression, urging the Security Council to hold Israel accountable for its actions. He warned that Israel’s actions continue to destabilize the Middle East and threaten peace globally, urging the international community to intervene and bring an end to Israel’s “terrorist” activities.
