Pakistani security forces successfully thwarted a major infiltration attempt by militants along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, neutralizing over 15 insurgents in the process, according to official sources.
The incident occurred on the night between December 27 and 28, when a group of 20 to 25 militants reportedly used Afghan Taliban-controlled border posts to launch infiltration attempts at two locations in Kurram and North Waziristan. Pakistani forces swiftly responded, preventing the militants from entering Pakistani territory.
In the early hours of December 28, militants, allegedly aided by Afghan Taliban fighters, launched unprovoked heavy weapon fire on Pakistani posts. Security forces retaliated effectively, inflicting significant losses.
Verified reports indicate that over 15 militants, including Afghan Taliban members, were killed, while several others sustained injuries. The exchange of fire also forced the Afghan Taliban to abandon six of their border posts.
Sources revealed that Pakistan has repeatedly urged the interim Afghan government to ensure its territory is not used for anti-Pakistan activities. Despite these appeals, militants appear to be operating with considerable freedom within Afghanistan, targeting Pakistan from across the border.
“Afghan soil continues to be exploited for orchestrating terrorist activities against Pakistan,” said a security official. “Our forces remain fully prepared to counter any aggression and defend the nation’s sovereignty.”
