The Taliban administration has announced a new regulation prohibiting the construction of windows in residential buildings that provide a view into neighboring properties. The move is aimed at preserving privacy, particularly for women in Afghanistan.
Under a directive issued by Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, all new residential structures must exclude windows that overlook areas of neighboring homes such as courtyards, kitchens, and wells. Authorities have also been instructed to ensure that existing buildings modify or seal such windows in compliance with the new rules.
A spokesperson for the Taliban stated that the regulation is intended to safeguard the sanctity of private spaces used by women and prevent any intrusion into their lives. Municipal bodies and local agencies have been tasked with strict enforcement, including oversight of building plans and renovations.
This policy is part of a broader effort by the Taliban to enforce conservative values across Afghan society. While proponents argue that it upholds cultural and religious norms, critics contend that it imposes severe restrictions on personal liberties and architectural practices.
