Syrian Interim Government leader Ahmed Al-Sharaa held key meetings on Monday and Tuesday with prominent Christian minority leaders and Kurdish commanders. These discussions took place amid ongoing demands for the protection of minority rights in Syria.
Christian Delegation
A Christian delegation, including representatives from Catholic, Orthodox, and Anglican communities, met with Al-Sharaa in the capital, Damascus. Following the meeting, statements from participants were shared on the social media platform Telegram, highlighting the dialogue’s significance.
Kurdish Delegation
On Monday, a delegation from the Kurdish leadership also engaged in discussions with Al-Sharaa. According to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the meeting was described as “highly positive” in a statement provided to AFP on Tuesday.
This meeting marked the first direct dialogue between Al-Sharaa and Kurdish commanders since the Kurdish armed group decided to sever ties with Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham. SDF commanders emphasized that the meeting was an initial step toward establishing a foundation for future negotiations. Both sides agreed to continue these engagements to build consensus and formulate a roadmap for the future.
These recent meetings reflect efforts to foster inclusivity and cooperation among Syria’s diverse communities as the country grapples with its ongoing challenges.
