The 32nd death anniversary of renowned poet and lyricist Tufail Hoshiarpuri was observed today, commemorating his contributions to Urdu literature and Pakistani music.
Born as Muhammad Tufail on July 14, 1914, in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, British India, he later adopted Tufail Hoshiarpuri as his professional name. Following the Partition in 1947, Hoshiarpuri migrated to Lahore, Pakistan, where he initially worked as a journalist before joining Radio Pakistan, Lahore in 1952.
Tufail Hoshiarpuri’s poetry and lyrics earned him widespread acclaim, particularly for his patriotic compositions. His famous patriotic song “Ai Mard-e-Mujahid Jaag Zara” remains an enduring symbol of national pride.
For his literary achievements, he was posthumously awarded the Pride of Performance Award by the President of Pakistan in 1994, recognizing his significant contributions to Pakistani culture.
Hoshiarpuri passed away on January 4, 1993, and was laid to rest in Model Town Graveyard, Lahore. His works continue to inspire and resonate with poetry enthusiasts and music lovers across generations.
