Pakistan’s Alternative Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, met with Somalia’s Ambassador Abukar Dahir Osman on Monday, where they engaged in discussions on issues pertinent to the UN Security Council. This exchange of views came as Somalia and Pakistan both joined the UN Security Council as non-permanent members for the 2025-26 term, marking a significant development in their roles within the 15-member body.

Ambassador Iftikhar also took the opportunity to meet with Li Junhua, the UN Under-Secretary-General for the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA). During the meeting, the two officials discussed various aspects of economic and social development, focusing particularly on enhancing collaboration between Pakistan and DESA. The discussions underscored the importance of cooperative efforts in fostering sustainable development and achieving global goals.
