Pakistan and Djibouti Sign Strengthen Ties with MoU on Bilateral Political Consultations
Pakistan and Djibouti have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Bilateral Political Consultations and held their inaugural session, emphasizing the strong bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The MoU was signed by Additional Foreign Secretary (Africa Division) Hamid Asghar Khan on behalf of Pakistan and Mahmoud Ali Hassan, Permanent Secretary General (Foreign Secretary) of Djibouti. This agreement marks a significant step in fostering a comprehensive and long-term bilateral partnership, with a focus on enhancing trade and investment in the future.
The two sides reviewed all aspects of bilateral relations, including political, economic, and defense/security issues, and discussed ways to further strengthen ties through increased engagement at all levels. Both countries expressed satisfaction with their existing multilateral cooperation and exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, particularly focusing on the Middle East and the Horn of Africa.
Since Pakistan opened its resident mission in Djibouti in May 2022, bilateral relations have steadily grown. The next round of Bilateral Political Consultations will be held in Islamabad early next year. Additionally, Djibouti’s Foreign Minister is expected to visit Pakistan, and a Joint Business Council (JBC) will be established in the first half of 2025.
