Pakistan and New Jersey Businesses Discuss Economic Cooperation

A key diplomatic meeting took place recently as Pakistan’s Consul General in New York, Aamer Ahmed Atozai, visited the state of New Jersey to engage in discussions on enhancing economic cooperation between Pakistan and local businesses.

The focus of the meeting was to explore new avenues for trade relations and investment opportunities. During the visit, Consul General Atozai, accompanied by Trade & Investment Counsellor Adnan Mahmood Awan, met with Assemblywoman Shama Haider, a Pakistani-American representative in the state legislature, along with several business leaders from the region.

The discussions revolved around Pakistan’s trade potential and the possibility of increased collaboration in sectors such as IT, agriculture, mining, and tourism. The Consul General emphasized the vast opportunities for economic synergy between Pakistan and New Jersey, specifically in sectors where both regions could benefit from increased commercial exchange.

One major highlight was the presentation by Counsellor Awan, who provided insights into Pakistan’s investor-friendly policies and its strategic position as a gateway to South Asia. He also outlined how Pakistan’s trade agreements, such as its GSP+ status with the EU and the Free Trade Agreement with China, present attractive prospects for foreign investors.

The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) was also highlighted as a key institution helping to simplify investment processes and create a more business-friendly environment for international investors.

As the discussions drew to a close, participants showed keen interest in Pakistan’s growing infrastructure and business incentives, prompting plans for follow-up engagements. These future meetings will aim to discuss sector-specific strategies and deepen economic collaboration between New Jersey and Pakistan.

This visit represents an important step in strengthening economic relations and underscores Pakistan’s commitment to expanding its global trade network, especially with the United States.
