Iran’s Underground anti-ship Cruise Missile Launch for Naval Defense

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has unveiled a new underground military base housing advanced cruise missiles designed to target destroyers and warships in strategic southern waters, strengthening the country’s maritime defense capabilities.

According to Iranian state media, the base is equipped with a sophisticated arsenal of anti-ship cruise missiles, capable of engaging large naval targets at extended ranges. The facility, whose location remains undisclosed, is part of Iran’s broader efforts to fortify its defensive posture along the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Gulf of Oman—key maritime routes critical for global energy trade.

IRGC Navy Commander Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri emphasized that the new base enhances Iran’s ability to respond swiftly to potential threats from foreign naval forces operating in the region. He stated that the cruise missile systems are highly mobile and can be rapidly deployed from underground silos to engage enemy ships if necessary.

The unveiling of this base follows a series of military advancements by Iran, including the deployment of hypersonic missiles, drones, and high-speed naval vessels. Military analysts believe this latest development is aimed at deterring U.S. and allied naval forces operating near Iranian waters, particularly amid ongoing regional tensions.

The IRGC has previously showcased underground missile facilities along its coastline, reinforcing its ability to conduct asymmetric warfare and maintain operational secrecy. The move signals Iran’s continued investment in strategic defense infrastructure to protect its maritime borders and assert its presence in the region.
