Trump Proposes U.S. Control Over Gaza, Netanyahu Calls It a “Historic Shift”
U.S. President Donald Trump has put forward a controversial proposal suggesting that the United States take long-term control of Gaza, with the aim of rebuilding and transforming the war-ravaged coastal region. The idea was met with praise from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who described it as a “historic shift in the Middle East.”
Speaking at a press conference alongside Netanyahu at the White House, Trump stated, “We will take responsibility for Gaza, clear the land of dangerous weapons, and begin a new era of development. The goal is to make Gaza the ‘Riviera of the Middle East’—a place of prosperity and opportunity.”
Gaza Under U.S. Administration?
Trump’s remarks followed discussions with multiple Middle Eastern leaders regarding the potential relocation of Palestinian residents from Gaza to other nations. According to Trump, at least a dozen countries have shown interest in hosting displaced Palestinians.
He further emphasized that a restructured Gaza, under U.S. management, would attract international investment and tourism. “Imagine a Gaza where people from all over the world come to live and work. ” Trump added.
Netanyahu Hails the Proposal
Netanyahu welcomed Trump’s proposal, calling it “a bold and transformative idea that could reshape the region.” He praised Trump as Israel’s “greatest ally” and reaffirmed his belief that peace in the Middle East is impossible as long as Hamas remains active.
“This plan envisions a Gaza free from terror and filled with potential,” Netanyahu said. “With President Trump’s leadership, we have an opportunity to create real and lasting change.”
Geopolitical Repercussions
Trump’s proposal is expected to spark significant debate among international leaders. While Israel has voiced support, Palestinian officials and global human rights organizations are likely to raise concerns over sovereignty and forced displacement.
Trump also announced plans to visit Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern nations in the coming months, suggesting that further diplomatic efforts regarding Gaza’s future are underway.
This meeting between Trump and Netanyahu marks the first foreign leader visit to the White House since Trump’s return to office on January 20, reinforcing the deep ties between the U.S. and Israel.
