Israel Announces Withdrawal from UN Human Rights Council.

Israel has officially decided to withdraw from the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), claiming persistent bias against the country. The move follows a similar decision by the United States in previous years.

Announcing the decision, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar sent a formal letter to UNHRC President Jorg Lauber, which he also shared on the social media platform X.

“This step has been taken due to the council’s long-standing pattern of unfairly targeting Israel while ignoring severe human rights violations elsewhere,” Saar stated.

Israel has frequently criticized the UNHRC for what it sees as an imbalanced approach, arguing that the council disproportionately scrutinizes Israeli policies while overlooking abuses in other regions. The United States previously withdrew from the UNHRC in 2018 under then-President Donald Trump, citing similar concerns, though it later rejoined in 2021 under President Joe Biden.

Israel’s exit from the council is expected to impact its diplomatic engagements within UN human rights frameworks, potentially increasing tensions between Tel Aviv and international bodies.
