Bangladesh’s Shohaly Akhter Banned for Five Years Over Corruption Charges
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a five-year ban on Bangladesh cricketer Shohaly Akhter after she admitted to breaching multiple Anti-Corruption Code provisions.
Shohaly was found guilty of violating articles 2.1.1, 2.1.3, 2.1.4, 2.4.4, and 2.4.7 of the ICC’s anti-corruption regulations. The charges stem from corrupt approaches related to matches during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa.
After accepting the charges, her ineligibility period will run until February 10, 2030. The ICC has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against corruption in cricket.
