Pakistan, Turkiye Committed to Achieving $5 Billion Bilateral Trade Target: PM Shahbaz
Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening economic ties with Turkiye, emphasizing that both nations are dedicated to achieving a $5 billion bilateral trade target.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted the significance of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s recent visit to Pakistan, during which several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to enhance trade and economic cooperation.
“President Erdogan has always been a strong advocate for Pakistan on global platforms, particularly on issues like Palestine and Kashmir. The deep-rooted brotherly ties between Pakistan and Turkiye continue to grow through mutual support and regular diplomatic consultations,” PM Shahbaz stated.
To honor the Turkish leader, the Prime Minister noted that a flyover in Islamabad, completed in just 84 days, was named after President Erdogan as a symbol of the enduring friendship between the two nations.
PM Shahbaz urged the Ministry of Commerce and other relevant departments to work collaboratively toward realizing the $5 billion trade goal. He also welcomed a recent Gallup survey showing that 55% of Pakistanis expressed confidence in the government’s pro-business policies.
Discussing his recent meeting with World Bank directors, the Prime Minister shared that they expressed unanimous satisfaction with Pakistan’s economic reforms and macroeconomic stability.
“A stable and prosperous economy is essential for national progress, and peace is directly linked to economic development,” he emphasized. He also praised Pakistan’s security forces for their sacrifices in ensuring national stability and security.
PM Shahbaz reiterated that the government remains focused on achieving economic growth through initiatives like Uraan Pakistan while fostering strong international partnerships.
