Western Leaders Visit Kyiv on War’s 3rd Anniversary, Pledge Military Support Amid U.S. Policy Shift

More than a dozen Western leaders, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Antonio Costa, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, visited Kyiv on the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion to reaffirm their support for Ukraine.

Their visit comes as U.S. President Donald Trump signals a potential shift in American policy, suggesting that Russia might accept European peacekeepers while casting doubts on Ukraine’s NATO aspirations. His stance has alarmed European allies, prompting an emergency EU summit on March 6.

On the battlefield, Russian forces continue to make gains as Ukraine struggles with troop and weapon shortages. With U.S. support uncertain, European leaders are exploring ways to sustain Kyiv’s defense, while imposing new sanctions targeting Russia’s shadow fleet and supply chains.
