Pakistan is set to launch 5G services by mid-2025, marking a significant step in its digital transformation journey. Analysts believe that China’s expertise in smart cities and digital economy can serve as a model for Pakistan’s 5G-driven innovations.

Moiz Farooq, executive editor of Pakistan Economic Net, emphasized that 5G will be a “game-changer”, boosting economic growth, connectivity, and AI-driven technologies. Syed Shujaat Ahmed, an economist, highlighted its potential for e-commerce, fintech, and IT exports, benefiting startups and enterprises.

However, challenges such as high infrastructure costs, regulatory hurdles, and cybersecurity concerns remain. Shakeel Ahmad Ramay, CEO of the Asian Institute of Eco-civilization Research, pointed out that China is actively supporting Pakistan through investments in ICT infrastructure, with Zong (China Mobile) already piloting 5G projects.

The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor’s Digital Corridor Initiative is expected to enhance fiber-optic expansion, cloud computing, and cybersecurity, facilitating Pakistan’s transition to next-generation telecom solutions.
