Brazil Hosts First BRICS Sherpas Meeting, Strengthens Global South Cooperation
Brazil, as the rotating president of BRICS, inaugurated the first BRICS Sherpas meeting in Brasília, focusing on multilateralism, global governance reforms, and economic cooperation.
Brazilian Foreign Affairs Minister Mauro Vieira emphasized the need for a just, inclusive, and multipolar world order, advocating for greater representation of emerging economies. Discussions included trade policies, financial mechanisms, and institutional strengthening.
This marks the first BRICS meeting since the bloc expanded in 2024, adding Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE, Ethiopia, Iran, and Indonesia. Brazil outlined six key priorities: health, trade, climate change, AI, security reforms, and institutional development.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will join a special session on Wednesday, reinforcing Brazil’s commitment to strengthening BRICS and prioritizing the Global South’s economic and geopolitical interests.
