Arab Leaders Back Egypt’s $53 Billion Gaza Reconstruction Plan, Reject Trump’s Proposal

Arab leaders have endorsed a $53 billion reconstruction plan for Gaza, spearheaded by Egypt, rejecting former U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial proposal to relocate Palestinians and redevelop the region as a tourist destination.

The plan, unveiled at an emergency Arab summit in Cairo, aims to rebuild Gaza by 2030 without displacing its population. It includes:

  • Clearing 50 million tons of rubble left from Israeli bombardments.
  • Developing sustainable housing and urban infrastructure with green energy.
  • Establishing industrial zones, agricultural lands, and large parks.
  • Constructing a new airport, fishing port, and commercial port to boost economic activity.

Hamas welcomed the initiative, emphasizing its commitment to preventing Palestinian displacement. In contrast, Israel rejected the plan, arguing it fails to address security concerns or acknowledge Hamas’ role in the ongoing conflict.

The White House cautiously acknowledged the Arab proposal, emphasizing that any post-war plan must ensure Hamas does not retain control over Gaza.

The Arab League has urged the U.N. Security Council to deploy a peacekeeping force in Gaza and the West Bank. Meanwhile, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to engage in further discussions to oversee Gaza’s transition under an interim administration.

The debate over Gaza’s future continues, with Egypt’s plan gaining widespread Arab support, while Israel and the Trump-backed relocation proposal face strong international opposition.
