U.S. President Sends Letter to Iranian Leadership for Nuclear Deal Talks
U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed his willingness to engage in discussions with Iran regarding a potential nuclear agreement. According to reports, President Trump sent a letter to Iran’s leadership on Thursday, urging them to participate in negotiations.
During an interview with Fox Business Network on Friday, President Trump emphasized his hopes for a constructive dialogue with Iran. “I have expressed my desire for discussions because I believe it would be in Iran’s best interest,” he stated.
Trump also mentioned that he believes Iran’s leadership is open to receiving the letter. However, he cautioned that if diplomatic efforts fail, other measures may be necessary, as the United States cannot allow another nuclear power to emerge in the region.
As of now, Iran’s Foreign Ministry has not issued an official response regarding the letter. Reports suggest that the communication was likely addressed to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, but the White House has not provided further clarification.
Two Approaches: Diplomacy or Military Action
President Trump highlighted two possible approaches in dealing with Iran:
✔ Military intervention
✔ A negotiated agreement
He reiterated his preference for diplomatic resolution, stating that he does not wish to harm Iran, adding, “They are good people, and I would rather reach an agreement than resort to conflict.”
Background: U.S. Withdrawal from 2015 Nuclear Deal
It is important to note that during his first term, President Trump withdrew the U.S. from the 2015 Iran Nuclear Deal (JCPOA) in 2018. This multilateral agreement was designed to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons in exchange for economic relief.
Future Prospects of a New Deal
In February 2025, President Trump had already expressed interest in negotiating a new deal with Iran to ensure it does not develop nuclear weapons. With this recent letter, the possibility of renewed diplomatic engagement remains open, though Iran’s stance on the matter is yet to be confirmed.
