Thousands Gather at Al-Aqsa Mosque for First Friday Prayers of Ramadan

Tens of thousands of Muslim worshipers gathered at Al-Aqsa Mosque on the first Friday of Ramadan, despite heightened security measures in the City.

Worshipers from across Palestine and beyond made their way to Islam’s third holiest site to observe the sacred month’s first Jummah prayer. Many arrived before dawn, braving long security checks to reach the historic compound.

Israeli authorities had deployed additional forces around the Old City, restricting entry for some Palestinian worshipers from the West Bank. Reports indicated that only a limited number of permits were issued for West Bank residents to attend Friday prayers.

Footage from inside Al-Aqsa showed thousands of worshipers filling the prayer halls and courtyards, with echoes of Quranic recitations and supplications creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere. Sermons focused on the virtues of Ramadan, unity, and the resilience of faith in challenging times.

Despite the restrictions, Muslim leaders urged worshipers to remain steadfast in their devotion and called for unhindered access to the holy site throughout the holy month.

Al-Aqsa Mosque remains a focal point of religious and political tensions, with previous Ramadan periods witnessing clashes between Palestinian worshipers and Israeli security forces. Local and international observers have called for calm to ensure a peaceful Ramadan.

The first Friday of Ramadan at Al-Aqsa holds immense spiritual significance, marking the beginning of a month-long period of fasting, prayer, and reflection for millions of Muslims worldwide.
