OIC Foreign Ministers Meeting Backs Arab Plan for Gaza Reconstruction
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers held an extraordinary session at its General Secretariat in Jeddah on Friday night. The meeting, chaired by Gambia’s Foreign Minister Lojain Mbella, was attended by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with other key representatives.
Agenda Focus: Gaza Reconstruction & Palestinian Rights
The meeting primarily focused on:
✅ Restoring Syria’s OIC membership
✅ Endorsing the Arab plan for Gaza’s reconstruction
✅ Rejecting the forced displacement of Palestinians
Arab Nations Propose $53 Billion Gaza Reconstruction Plan
The meeting took place as Arab leaders introduced a $53 billion plan for Gaza’s reconstruction, countering the U.S. “Middle East Revival Era” initiative introduced during Donald Trump’s presidency.
Saudi Arabia’s Call for Immediate Ceasefire
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan emphasized:
The need for a lasting ceasefire in Gaza
Rejection of any forced displacement of Palestinians
Support for a two-state solution to ensure long-term regional stability
He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic efforts with international allies to resolve the Palestinian crisis.
OIC Secretary-General Supports Arab Plan for Gaza
OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha reiterated support for the Gaza reconstruction plan approved by the Arab League Summit.
He stated:
Palestinians right to live on their land
Israel’s actions against Palestinian refugees are unacceptable
The role of UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency) cannot be diminished or replaced
Urgent Call for International Protection for Palestinians
Taha warned that the Palestinian cause faces unprecedented challenges due to:
Israeli-imposed siege and forced displacement
Destruction of infrastructure and homes
Efforts to alter Jerusalem’s identity and undermine its sanctity
He called for:
✔️ Strengthening international protection for Palestinians
✔️ Emergency relief, economic recovery, and reconstruction programs
✔️ Unity among Palestinian territories
Syria’s OIC Membership Under Discussion
Taha also stated that OIC foreign ministers would decide on Syria’s re-admission to the organization.
