Man Wins $50 Million After Starbucks Tea Spill Causes Severe Burns

A California man has been awarded $50 million after suffering serious burns from a Starbucks tea spill.

Michael Garcia, a delivery driver, was injured on February 8, 2020, when a venti-sized hot tea tipped over in his lap at a Starbucks drive-through. He required multiple surgeries, including skin grafts, due to the severe burns.

Garcia sued Starbucks, claiming the employee failed to secure the cup properly in the tray. A Los Angeles jury ruled in his favor, holding Starbucks responsible.

Starbucks has expressed sympathy but plans to appeal, calling the damages excessive and stating it follows strict safety procedures for handling hot drinks.
