Trump Orders Closure of Seven Federal Agencies, Including Voice of America’s
Former President Donald Trump has issued an executive order to shut down seven federal agencies, including the U.S. Agency for Global Media, which funds Voice of America, Radio Free Europe, and other government-backed media organizations.
The order directs agency leaders to eliminate all non-mandated functions and cut staffing to the legal minimum. Other targeted agencies include those focused on labor mediation, homelessness prevention, and minority business development.
Critics argue the move could severely impact independent journalism and essential public services. Legal challenges are expected, as some agencies operate under congressional authority.
Agency heads have been given seven days to submit their downsizing plans, but previous attempts to shrink government operations have faced legal roadblocks.
