Pakistan Navy Official Launches Second Hangor-Class Submarine in China
Report by Ishrat Yasmeen
The Pakistan Navy has launched its second Hangor-class submarine, PNS/M SHUSHUK, at a ceremony held at Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Company Ltd in Wuhan, China.
Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ovais Ahmed Bilgrami, was the chief guest at the event, highlighting the growing importance of maritime security in the region. He emphasized that the state-of-the-art Hangor-class submarines would play a crucial role in maintaining regional stability and enhancing Pakistan Navy’s operational capabilities.
The Hangor-class submarine project is part of a long-standing defense collaboration between Pakistan and China. Under an agreement signed during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Pakistan, a total of eight submarines will be built—four in China and four in Pakistan at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KS&EW) under a Transfer of Technology (ToT) program. These submarines will be equipped with advanced weaponry and sensors, enabling them to engage targets at extended ranges.
The launch event was attended by senior officials from both Pakistan and China, reaffirming the strategic partnership between the two nations in defense and maritime security.
