EU Considers Stronger Sanctions on Russia Amidst Summit Talks

The European Union (EU) has reaffirmed its stance on tightening sanctions against Russia, following high-level summit discussions in Brussels. While most EU leaders expressed unity in increasing economic pressure on Moscow, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stood apart, refusing to endorse a joint declaration of support for Ukraine.

During the meeting, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy joined via video link, urging the bloc to intensify measures against Russia and boost military assistance. The summit also highlighted a growing geopolitical divide regarding Europe’s defense strategies and rearmament policies.

Despite Hungary’s resistance, the EU leaders pledged to reinforce existing sanctions and explore new economic restrictions to limit Russia’s ability to finance its military operations. More concrete measures are expected to be finalized in the coming weeks.
