Japan Awards Fully Funded MEXT Research Scholarships to 11 Pakistani Students

The Government of Japan has granted MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology) Research Scholarships to 11 outstanding Pakistani students for the 2025 academic year. This prestigious program will enable them to pursue Master’s and Doctoral degrees at renowned Japanese universities, further strengthening educational and diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Japan.

As a flagship initiative of the Japanese government, the MEXT Research Scholarship provides fully funded opportunities for postgraduate students worldwide, including Pakistan. In addition to those selected through the Embassy of Japan, many Pakistani students secure MEXT scholarships annually by applying directly to Japanese universities.

To prepare the scholars for their academic journey, the Embassy of Japan conducted a pre-departure orientation session, where alumni of Japanese universities shared their insights and experiences.

Following the session, Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan, AKAMATSU Shuichi, hosted an iftar reception to honor the MEXT Alumni Association of Pakistan (MAAP) and bid farewell to the selected students.

During his speech, Ambassador AKAMATSU praised the scholarship recipients for their achievement and highlighted the transformative impact of the MEXT Research Scholarship. He encouraged them to embrace Japan’s world-class education system while gaining valuable cultural experiences. He further expressed confidence that upon their return, these scholars would contribute to Pakistan’s progress and serve as bridges of friendship between the two nations.

The ambassador also acknowledged MAAP’s efforts in promoting Japanese education and cultural exchange, emphasizing the enduring partnership between Pakistan and Japan.

Established in 1954, the MEXT Research Scholarship has supported numerous Pakistani students, with the first scholar traveling to Japan in 1963. Over the years, these alumni have played a crucial role in Pakistan’s development, contributing to academia, government, and private sectors.

The Japanese government remains committed to nurturing talent by offering fully funded undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate scholarships, along with short-term training programs for Pakistani students annually.
