Trump Revokes Security Clearances for Harris, Clinton, and Other Political Rivals
President Donald Trump has revoked security clearances for several prominent Democratic figures, including former Vice President Kamala Harris and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in what appears to be a targeted political move against his adversaries.
In a memorandum issued late Friday, Trump stated that it was “no longer in the national interest” for certain individuals to have access to classified information. The list also included former Secretary of State Antony Blinken, former Biden White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, and Russia expert Fiona Hill, who served on Trump’s National Security Council during his first term.
Additionally, Republican critics of Trump were not spared. Former Representative Liz Cheney, a key figure in the House’s January 6th investigation, and ex-GOP lawmaker Adam Kinzinger also lost their security clearances. Mark Zaid, a national security lawyer known for representing whistleblowers, was among those affected.
Trump had previously revoked the security clearance of former President Joe Biden, marking a break from tradition where former presidents receive intelligence briefings to advise their successors on national security matters. Biden had similarly revoked Trump’s clearance in 2021.
This latest decision underscores the deepening political divide in Washington as Trump consolidates power and moves against perceived enemies. Critics argue that the move is politically motivated, while Trump allies defend it as a necessary step to protect national security.
