Mia Love, First Black Republican Woman in U.S. Congress, Dies at 49

 

Former U.S. Representative Mia Love, a groundbreaking political figure and the first Black Republican woman elected to Congress, has passed away at the age of 49 after a prolonged battle with glioblastoma,

Love’s family confirmed her passing, stating that she died peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones. They described her as a visionary leader who dedicated her life to public service and left an indelible mark on American politics.

Rising to national prominence in 2014, Love secured a historic victory in Utah’s Fourth Congressional District, serving from 2015 to 2019. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she was the mayor of Saratoga Springs, where she focused on economic growth and fiscal responsibility.

Throughout her political career, Love championed conservative values and worked on key legislative issues, particularly in financial and economic policy. After leaving office, she transitioned into media, becoming a political analyst and commentator.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox mourned her loss, calling her “a trailblazer whose courage and leadership inspired countless individuals.”

Her family will announce details regarding funeral services and a public memorial in the coming days.
