Bangkok Prepares for 6th BIMSTEC Summit to Enhance Regional Collaboration

Bangkok is ready to host the 6th Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit from April 2 to 4, 2025. This crucial summit, which brings together the seven member states—Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand—will focus on strengthening economic ties, improving security.

The summit’s discussions will include a wide array of topics, such as trade policies, security issues, and infrastructure development. Key agreements expected to be signed include the BIMSTEC Leaders’ Declaration and the Bangkok Vision 2030, setting the roadmap for future collaboration. Additionally, a Maritime Transport Cooperation Agreement will be finalized, aiming to boost trade and mobility in the Bay of Bengal region.

Bangkok has been preparing for the summit, with visible signs of the event around the city, including flags representing the member nations and large billboards promoting the summit. The Thai government has assured that the city’s infrastructure is fully equipped to accommodate the high-level event.

The participation of all BIMSTEC member nations has been confirmed. Myanmar’s junta leader Min Aung Hlaing will attend the summit, making a rare international appearance since the 2021 coup. His attendance comes amid the aftermath of a devastating earthquake that hit Myanmar, causing significant loss of life.
