Hamas Rejects Israeli Truce Proposal, Citing Alleged Obstruction

The Palestinian militant group Hamas has officially rejected Israel’s latest ceasefire and hostage release proposal, according to statements from two senior Hamas officials who spoke to AFP.

One Hamas official claimed that the group refused to engage further with Israel’s proposal, accusing the Israeli government of “blocking a proposal from Egypt and Qatar” and attempting to “derail any agreement.” The rejected proposal, mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, aimed to establish a temporary ceasefire and secure the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza.

The Israeli government has not yet officially commented on Hamas’s rejection but has repeatedly stated that it will not agree to a ceasefire unless it guarantees the return of all hostages and eliminates Hamas’s military threat. Meanwhile, mediators continue diplomatic efforts to revive negotiations amid growing international pressure for a resolution.
