Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Canada, Muhammad Saleem, emphasized the growing potential for bilateral investment and trade between Pakistan and Canada, underscoring the strong and enduring ties that exist between the two nations. Speaking at a reception hosted by the Pakistan High Commission in Ottawa on the occasion of Pakistan Day, Saleem outlined several promising areas for expanding economic and political cooperation.

He noted that Canada was one of the top five investor countries in Pakistan in the past year, calling on both nations’ business communities to increase their investments in sectors such as mining, information technology (IT), agriculture, energy, and infrastructure.

Saleem also recognized the significant contributions of the Pakistani-Canadian diaspora to Canada’s public and private sectors, highlighting their role in enriching Canada’s multicultural society while maintaining strong connections with their cultural roots.

During his address, the High Commissioner took the opportunity to reflect on the importance of Pakistan Day, commemorating the vision of Pakistan’s founding father, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and the sacrifices made by the country’s early leaders. He also shared positive updates on Pakistan’s economic developments, including improvements in fiscal management and investor confidence. These efforts have led to a stabilization of the country’s economy, as evidenced by strengthened foreign exchange reserves, an increase in remittances, and a rise in exports.

The event was attended by Canadian dignitaries, senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives from international organizations, academia, civil society, the Pakistani community, and students.

Saleem reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to fostering peace, prosperity, and inclusivity, stressing the importance of deepening the bilateral relationship with Canada across all sectors, including trade, investment, and cultural exchange.
