Iran Awaits U.S. Response on Nuclear Talks Proposal via Oman

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced on Monday that Tehran is still waiting for an official response from the United States regarding its offer to hold indirect negotiations over its nuclear program in Oman.

“The next move is up to the United States. We have put forward our position and are now waiting, although there is no urgency on our part,” Araqchi told Tasnim News Agency.

The remarks come after reports confirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump recently sent a letter to Iran through the United Arab Emirates, urging dialogue over Iran’s nuclear activities. However, Trump has also continued to apply pressure through economic sanctions and military threats, reigniting tensions between the two countries.

Iran responded on March 26, stating it would only engage in indirect talks, citing ongoing U.S. hostility as a barrier to direct diplomacy. According to Araqchi, Oman has once again been proposed as the host country, reflecting its historic role as a neutral venue for U.S.-Iran negotiations.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei also clarified on Monday that the U.S. proposal was focused solely on nuclear issues, dismissing media speculation that it included broader topics such as Iran’s missile capabilities or support for regional groups like Hezbollah or Hamas.

Describing the offer to engage via Oman as “strategic and constructive,” Baghaei emphasized that Tehran remains open to diplomacy, but only under conditions that ensure mutual respect and sovereignty.
