Riffat Mukhtar Assumes Office as New DG FIA, Vows Zero Tolerance for Corruption

Senior police officer Riffat Mukhtar officially took charge as the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Monday, bringing decades of experience in law enforcement and public administration to Pakistan’s premier investigative institution.

A member of the 24th Common batch of the Police Service of Pakistan, Mukhtar most recently served as the Inspector General of the National Highways and Motorway Police, where he led key initiatives to enhance road safety and operational efficiency.

Over the course of his career, he has held several high-profile positions, including Inspector General of Police Sindh, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, and Regional Police Officer (RPO) in major cities such as Gujranwala, Multan, Faisalabad, and Bahawalpur.

Upon his arrival at FIA Headquarters, Mukhtar was welcomed by senior officials and received a comprehensive briefing on the agency’s current operations and challenges.

In his maiden address to FIA officers, the newly appointed DG laid out his vision for the agency:

“We will adopt an effective strategy to combat human trafficking and improve public service delivery,” Mukhtar stated, adding, “There will be zero tolerance for corruption, and strict disciplinary action will be taken against any form of negligence.”

He emphasized that professionalism, integrity, and law enforcement without compromise would be the core principles under his leadership. The new DG also reiterated the agency’s commitment to restoring public trust through accountability and transparent practices.

The appointment of Riffat Mukhtar is widely seen as a step towards reinforcing institutional discipline and enhancing the FIA’s capability in dealing with cybercrime, immigration control, financial fraud, and human trafficking.

His leadership is expected to bring strategic reforms aimed at strengthening the FIA’s role in safeguarding national interests and upholding the rule of law across the country.
