Pakistan Demands Justice After Eight Nationals Brutally Killed in Iran
Pakistan has issued a strong condemnation following the tragic killing of eight of its citizens in Iran’s Mehrestan County, located in the Sistan-Baluchistan province, not far from the Pakistan-Iran border.
The Foreign Office of Pakistan, in an official statement on Sunday, described the incident as a “heinous and cowardly act.” The government expressed its deep sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, while calling for a transparent and urgent investigation by Iranian authorities.
“We expect full cooperation from the Iranian side in identifying the victims and ensuring that the perpetrators face justice,” said the Foreign Office spokesperson.
“Our mission has requested immediate consular access to confirm the identities of the deceased individuals.”
The primary goals are to facilitate a thorough investigation and expedite the return of the victims’ remains to Pakistan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has personally conveyed his condolences and directed that all necessary support be extended to the families of the deceased.
Ambassador Muhammad Mudassir Tipu, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), called the killings a “despicable act of violence” and assured the nation that diplomatic efforts are underway to ensure justice is served.
“We are in active contact with Iranian officials to pursue a comprehensive probe into the matter,” he stated. “The victims’ bodies will be sent back to Pakistan as soon as possible, in accordance with the Prime Minister’s instructions.”
Ongoing Coordination and Investigation
While the motive behind the killings remains unclear, Pakistani authorities are prioritizing both the repatriation of the remains and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable. The Foreign Office confirmed that updates will be shared as more information becomes available, particularly about the circumstances surrounding the attack and the final identification of the victims.
The tragic event has raised serious concerns over the safety of Pakistani nationals residing or traveling abroad. Calls are growing for enhanced coordination between neighboring countries to prevent such incidents in the future.
