Hezbollah Will Defend Its Arms Against Any Disarmament Attempts, Sheikh Qassem
Report By Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
Hezbollah Deputy Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem declared that the Lebanese Resistance movement will firmly confront any effort to disarm it, stating that Hezbollah’s weapons are vital for defending Lebanon against Israeli aggression.
In a televised speech aired by Al-Manar TV, Sheikh Qassem emphasized that Hezbollah was born out of necessity due to the state’s inability to protect Lebanese land from occupation. He described the Resistance as both a religious and national obligation aimed at liberating and safeguarding Lebanese territories.
“Anyone who tries to disarm the Resistance is serving Israel’s agenda,” said Qassem, addressing both internal and external calls to strip Hezbollah of its military power. “We will fight those who attempt to disarm us, just as we fought the Israeli occupation.”
Israeli Ambitions and Resistance Achievements
He accused Israel of harboring ambitions beyond Palestine, alleging that its long-term goal is to dominate all of Lebanon and impose the resettlement of displaced Palestinians. According to Qassem, it was Hezbollah’s resistance that prevented Israeli forces from reaching the Litani River during the recent conflict.
He added that while buildings may have been destroyed in the war, the real outcome lies in the Israeli army’s failure to achieve its strategic goals—thanks to Hezbollah’s efforts.
Hezbollah’s Stance on Dialogue and Defense Strategy
Sheikh Qassem reiterated Hezbollah’s openness to dialogue on national defense but rejected any discussion of disarmament. He emphasized that Lebanon’s defense policy should be comprehensive, incorporating diplomatic, economic, and military components, and must not be shaped by foreign pressure or media narratives.
“True dialogue can only happen after Israel halts its aggression, withdraws from Lebanese territory, and Lebanese prisoners are released,” he stated.
He called on President Joseph Aoun to initiate discussions once the proper conditions are met, including the rebuilding of war-affected areas.
Violation of Ceasefire and US Involvement
Sheikh Qassem accused Israel of violating the ceasefire agreement over 2,700 times, including aerial attacks and assassinations. He also criticized the United States for backing Israeli military action and urged the Lebanese government to resist American pressure.
“We are committed to the ceasefire. Let Israel and the Lebanese state also fulfill their obligations,” he urged.
Hezbollah’s Broader Political and Regional View
On the political front, Sheikh Qassem voiced support for municipal elections, reconstruction efforts, and national unity.
He also expressed hope for positive outcomes from the ongoing Iran-US indirect talks but acknowledged that any result is possible.
