Zelenskyy Accuses Russia of Violating Easter Ceasefire Despite Putin’s Truce Declaration
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russia of breaking the recently announced Easter ceasefire, stating that Russian forces carried out dozens of attacks overnight, despite a unilateral truce declared by President Vladimir Putin.
Zelenskyy said on Sunday that Russia is attempting to project an image of peace while continuing military operations in several areas. According to Ukraine’s military, at least 59 shelling incidents, five ground assaults, and numerous drone strikes were recorded after the ceasefire was meant to take effect.
He also reiterated Ukraine’s offer to extend the ceasefire by 30 days, beginning Sunday at midnight, calling on Russia to fully honor the terms of the truce.
“We remain open to a genuine ceasefire, but we will act according to the real conditions on the ground,” Zelenskyy stated.
Meanwhile, Russian-installed authorities in the partially occupied Kherson region reported continued Ukrainian shelling late Saturday, signaling that fighting remains active on both sides of the front.
